G7 accused of climate ‘hypocrisy’, true or false?

Newspaper  Design   Information  Design

To limit global warming to 1.5°C, CO2 emissions must drop sharply and quickly. The G7 nations—responsible for 40% of the world’s economy and 25% of global emissions—have the power to lead climate action. Yet critics accuse them of not practicing what they preach: while climate change is officially a priority, it’s often sidelined in practice.

Utilizing Ember’s data base, this visualization tracks the G7’s progress over the last 10 years in cutting emissions and boosting clean energy. It also weighs the pros and cons of their current climate strategies and suggests better policy solutions.

Inspiration & Audience

Inspired by skepticism surrounding the G7's actions on climate change, I aim to analyze the data to determine if the G7 has taken any action and to present the collective performance of the G7.

Furthermore, the G7's performance holds significant international influence, contributing to nearly one-quarter of the world's carbon emissions.

The audience is identified as political decision-makers of the G7, with the goal of enabling them to enhance their political decisions on climate change through the final visualization.

Data Structure

In order to conduct a scientific evaluation of the climate performance of the G7 countries, I have chosen to focus on carbon emission outcomes and the development of clean energy as two primary assessment criteria.

To further refine this evaluation, I have expanded the scope to include three specific areas of focus. By examining these aspects in detail, we can gain a comprehensive understanding of how effectively the G7 is responding to the urgent need for global climate action.

Moodboard
Through the mood board, overall, I envision expressing the intention of using bubble cleaning to represent clean energy reducing carbon emissions.
For the color scheme, I selected blue as the primary color to symbolize the cleanliness of bubbles, complemented by the contrasting color pink to emphasize and highlight the conce.

Newspaper

To highlight the strengths and weaknesses in the G7's performance and to promote political decision-making, newspapers should be distributed, particularly to political decision-makers.

“ The newspaper speaks with its reader not only with the help of the printed word, but also the language of visual images.”
